The 2024 Solar Eclips

Amenities & More Information

The April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean and will cross North America, passing over Mexico, United States, and Canada. Weather permitting, the first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexico's Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT.

The moon will pass between the sun and the earth and completely block the face of the sun, creating a dark sky as if it were dawn or dusk. Hillsboro is situated directly along the eclipse’s center line of totality, and the city will experience one of the longest totalities in Texas, at 4 minutes 22.5 seconds.

Astronomy magazine voted Hillsboro the best location to view the eclipse in North America. Hillsboro’s duration of totality is 11 seconds longer than Waco, 33 seconds longer than Dallas and 2 minutes 42 seconds longer than Austin.

Tourists from all over the world are expected to visit Hillsboro for this historic celestial event. Hillsboro will witness a total solar eclipse for the first time since 1878, with the effects of the eclipse beginning at 12:21 p.m. and ending at 3:01 p.m.

Hillsboro, TX is hosting a fun full weekend of Live Music, Food Trucks, and over 100 vendors.
